In chapter 5 the thing I’ll remember most is John Jacob Astor. What I learned is that he founded the Pacific Fur Trading CO. and that he sold the CO. in 1812. This was an important part of our state’s history because if he hadn’t sold the CO. the fur trading business would have gone on a little longer, until the fashion ran out. So he helped speed that up.

In chapter 1, the things I’ll remember most are the Scablands. What I learned is that, many people aren’t sure how the Scablands formed, but many have different theories about. Also that there could have been many different Ice Ages that have come and gone through Washington. This was an important part of our state’s history, because it helped form part of our state, and I think that it’s important to learn about our state and how it was formed.

In chapter 2 the things I’ll remember the most are the different regions and what they are like (plants/animals). What I learned is that, although the regions are all very different, they are all in some way the same. For instance all the regions have the cougar in them, and most of them have the Western Red Cedar. This was an important part of our state’s history, because each region was formed in many different ways.

In chapter 3, the things that I’ll remember the most are the salmon ceremonies when they come up to spawn. What I leraned is that the Plateau people carry the bones of the first salmon caught to the river and place them there so the salmon may come back next yaer. And with the Coastal people, they catch many salmon at one time, and have a ceremony for the first salmon. This was an important part in our state’s history, because it helped feed the Indian’s and leet them survive.

I think that the best thing about my finished product is my paragraph on my individual group, Jews, and my individual person, Elazear Ben Judah. I had a good sized quote, and lots about my person. The thing I didn’t do my greatest on, would be the overall content in each paragraph. I feel as if I didn’t add as much as I should have. But other than that, I think my finished product is good. If I had to do it all over again, I probably would have added more “meat” into the paragraphs. The overall process felt slow. I would have been faster, if I could work with possibly one other person or a group on maybe a poster, or powerpoint. I disliked using Diigo and Wikispaces. Diigo wouldn’t highlight everything that I wanted it to highlight. And the Wikispace, it was confusing trying to figure out when we had to type things, and not all the information I needed was on the Jew information page.

What I did well on the process of my Muhammad book, is I used my time wisely and I didn’t goof around. I spread my work out so that I wasn’t finishing it at the last minute. On my finished project, I think I did well on my color, content of the summaries, and my pictures. I used a lot of color on each of my chapters, I had a good amount of content in my summaries, and my pictures, I took time on and made sure that everything was as good as I could do. What I would change on my finished project, is the summary in 8.3. There wasn’t as much in it as I would have liked. What I would have changed on the process, is getting a little more work done in class, so I could have more time at home to do other homework. Something that I learned about Muhammad’s influence on the Arabian Peninsula, is that Muhammad’s changes were for the better. Even though most people did not agree with what Muhammad was trying to teach, most eventually gave in, and most of our planet wouldn’t be covered in the Islamic faith. Also I prefer to do projects instead of quizzes, and I learn more from them, because I am reading more so I can get more information, instead of just listening to people read. Also I can pull more information if I am reading it by myself, without any noise.

With being able to travel to 600 C.E., there are many things that I need to tell you about the Arabian Peninsula before you make your trip there. There are four different types of environments: desert, oases, coastal plain, and mountains. In the desert, you will need to make sure you have loose-fitted and light clothing to keep the heat and sand from your skin. You will also need cotton headdresses to keep the sand from your eyes and face. Also, you will need camels to carry your goods and stored foods. In the oases environment you can use date palms for many things. You can use the wood and palm leaves to make houses. You can also use fibers from the date palm to make rope. I highly suggest digging a well or two to store rainwater (only two inches per year!). In the coastal plain, I suggest forming a farm or becoming a trader. You can use tree sap for making frankincense and myrrh, or for the Europeans you can make incense, medicine, and perfume. In the mountaineous environment, you will need to make terraces to conserve escaping rainwater from your farming fields. You will also need mud bricks to construct your house. Make sure to build terraces not only for your farming fields but also for your house. The Arabian Peninsula may have many different environments, but you will soon find that they need mostly the same neccesities as each other.

Dear mom and dad,
This first trimester has been a great one. I have all A’s and I have turned in all of my assignments on time. In math I have learned how to add and subtract integers, scientific notation, how to graph numbers on a number line, how to use a coordinate plane, and a whole bunch of other stuff. In social studies, I have learned about the bubonic plague, the magna carta, the Roman Empire, and many other things. In language arts, I have learned how to come up with interesting yellows and reds for paragraphs, how to respond to a story, and other things. In science, I learned about the Grand Canyon and its layers, about different types of rocks, physical/chemical weathering, and the rock cycle. What has helped me to be successful in my classes, is to pay attention, and make sure I get what everything they are teaching me. And if I don’t get something, I make sure to ask my teachers. Also if it shows I have a missing assignment, I make sure to go and ask that teacher. What I would like to do differently in this coming trimester, is to make sure I study a little more for my tests, clean up my Eagle book, and to go over my answers for my homework to make sure I get a good grade. Next trimester will be just as great, if not better.
Sincerely,
Hayley

I think that the school rule where we are not aloud to wear tanktops is unfair. I can understand if it is 2-3 fingers wide, but not at all?! I can ask any of our student council board members about it. The process for dealing with complaints at SMS is contacting any of the 6,7, or 8 student council members about it. Or tak to a responsible adult at the school.
